WORMCHECK FAQS
How much do FECs cost?
All standard flotation FEC cost $10 each. Equine tapeworm + standard FECs are $25 for the combination. Sedimentation FECs to check for liver fluke cost $15.
How can I get samples to you?
All information about sample submission is listed on the top of the home page on the website. Samples can be dropped off to the lab, posted via AustPost, or dropped off at in-store drop offs (check dates on the home page).
What animals can you test?
Horses and ruminant livestock: cattle, sheep, alpacas, goats, camels.
I do not offer parasite diagnosis on pets (dogs/cats), pigs or birds. Handling faecal samples from these animals requires a higher level of laboratory safety than the lab is currently set up for.
How long does it take to get results back?
FECs are usually conducted within 1 to 2 days of samples arriving at the lab. Results will be returned to you via email within 48 hours. For posted samples, result timeframes are usually dependent the speed of the post. For large drop-off events, it may be up to 3 days to get through sample back-logs.

How to collect samples for FEC
PDF Instructions
Sample collection
Manure samples should be less than 24 hours old
If needed, animals can be separated into yards for a few hours – manure samples do not need to be freshly deposited; if you know they are under 24hrs old, they will be fine
Fresh samples can be kept, airtight, in the fridge for up to 3 days before submitting.
Only a SMALL amount is needed. Half to 1 nugget per horse, or a matchbox sized amount from other animals
Samples are best collected into small, well labelled ziplock bags. (See photo below)

Sample information
Make sure bags are clearly labelled. Permanent marker is best.
Info required for each sample is age (if under 3 years old) and when/with what they were last dewormed.
If dropping at sample to a store, a form will be provided in store to go with the samples. Just make sure to bring along your samples, and for most stores, correct cash.
If you are posting samples make sure to include a piece of paper with animal ages, previous worming details, and contact details for the report. A submission form is available on the website to download.

Example sample for FEC. Only a small amount of fresh manure (matchbox size) is required. Small ziplock bags are easy to collect samples in and label, and also pack down easily for postage.
